No Fear

This summer I am in a book study group with a few friends.  Our book is called “Following Jesus in a Culture of Fear” by Scott Bader-Saye.  The study was something I wanted to do because fear has been a bugabear for me for a while, and of course in the going through it again, many things have been cropping up giving me plenty of chances to fear!  We had a scare with our baby, about a month ago, and while the test results came back fine it brought all my fear issues involving my kids to the forefront.  In two days Nathan and I will be flying to Canada to be part of the Waldheim Missions Conference (which is very exciting for us) but leaving all of our kids here in the care of family and a trusted friend is still something I am fighting fear tooth-and-nail on.  It has been a wonderful process working through fear with my girlfriends, something we just discussed last night – fear vs. courage in community.  And it is wonderful to remember God’s encouragements:

And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. (1 Peter 3:6b)

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)

Psalm 23

…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7)

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. (1 John 4:18a)

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)

Do not be anxious about your life…(Luke 12)

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Isn’t God’s Word comforting? Praise God that we can lean on Him with everything–He knows what’s best for us and will cause it to come to pass, if we allow it. We make a lot of choices in life and you can CHOSE to let God have his way in your life. Have a wonderful trip and enjoy it. The Lord has wonderful things in store for you two. Hoping to meet you at Waldheim, if things go well here. We’ll see. Blessings to you.

Thanks for the post. We left our kids with my parents in Vancouver when we were in Thailand for 12 days. It was a very hard and stretching time, but God was faithful and we learned a lot about ourselves during this time of separation. Prayers as you guys depart and leave the kiddos behind! I look forward to hearing about how the conference goes.
