Happy Plastic People

Casting Crowns has some classic songs.  The title comes from their “Stained Glass Masquerade” song (it’s on my youtube playlist if you wanna listen). My other fav from them is “Praise You in This Storm” and that’s been my month….so I’m just going to share a little of our struggles and appease my happy plastic conscience.

Two days after my last post, our dog Lady passed away.  The loss was horrible, and 2 weeks later we are all still mourning her terribly. Amara’s latest phrase? “Lady died. I sad.”  Two days after that, my grandfather passed away.  He was 100, so it wasn’t exactly unexpected – actually more of a relief for him, I think.  I hope to never make it to 100.  Then we had some money troubles – down to $5 in the bank and unable to pay our kids’ school.  God sent the money we needed just before we got really desperate, though, thanks God!  We are also having some healthcare problems that mean both Nathan and Jonathan can’t get their medicine.  Then we had some marital stress (ie fights).  It’s been the book of Job. Then, when things were looking slightly better, one of Nathan’s teachers took him aside and suggested we just give up this whole seminary/missions attempt (because if God had really wanted him to be a teacher He wouldn’t have given him a learning disability).

seriously.

A friend has reminded me that when we are down, we need to preach the gospel to ourself first.

And while the thunder rolls outside and the downpour starts (man, God really does have the best timing in the universe) Casting Crowns:
“Praise You In This Storm”

I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

[Chorus:]
And I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to you
And you raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

But as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

[Chorus]

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

We miss you Lady.
